The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is central to our state of wellbeing and interacts with all the other systems within the body. When cannabinoids (CBD) are absorbed into the bloodstream, they combine with receptors, producing all kinds of beneficial changes that regulate mood, pain and everyday experience.

How does CBD work in our body?

Cannabinoid receptors

CBD oil cannabinoid receptors

ECS is a collection of cell receptors and molecules that are located throughout our body. Our ECS is responsible for maintaining biochemical and physiological balance. CBD influences this balance by interacting with cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2 to regulate natural homeostasis.

CB1 Cannabinoid Receptor

CB1 receptors are primarily found within the brain and central nervous system and can also be found within other tissues.

CB2 Cannabinoid Receptor

CB2 receptors are primarily found within the peripheral organs particularly cells associated with the immune system.

Endocannabinoids

What are Endocannabinoids?

Endocannabinoids are small molecules located in the cell membrane that bind to and activate cannabinoid receptors. The cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 are targeted by the endocannabinoid ligand, the binding molecule that joins receptors together with endocannabinoids uniquely, like a key that can only fit one lock.

Metabolic enzymes

What are Metabolic Enzymes?

The endocannabinoids in our body are regulated by metabolic enzymes. These enzymes call on the endocannabinoids when they are needed, then when their work is done, the enzymes break the endocannabinoids down so the body can expel them naturally.
